Gardening : Advice On Choosing Grass Seeds

Sometimes, the difference between an average property and a spectacular one is the lawn that is found on the land. And the difference between a dull lawn and one that catches the eye is the type of grass that grows there. This is why it is important to choose the correct grass seed for the job. Some lawns possess dry soil, while others retain water. Some will see more foot traffic than others. The type of grass seed you choose will depend on the use your lawn will experience. There are some factors to consider when deciding which grass seeds to use for your lawn. Many times, the front lawn is meant to be more ornamental than practical. It is what draws attention as people drive and walk past the property. Modern Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescues are especially adapted to a pretty front lawn because they do best when exposed to minimal foot traffic and their shades of color catch the eye rather effectively. The back yard is where family get togethers occur and children play. This is where perennial rye grasses are better because they are hardier and do well in hot, dry climates. Also a major factor in deciding which grass seeds to use for your lawn is the amount of that light usually makes its way to the grass. Every type of grass is dependent on light in order to survive, but some are more adapted to shade than others. Look around the yard and identify tall trees and buildings that will block the sun. Tall and fine fescues grow better with less light than other species of grass. Kentucky bluegrass and common Bermudagrass need more. The composition of the soil in which the grass seed is planted will play into your decision as well. Pick up a handful of soil, and if it falls apart with little effort, it is probably sandy. Choose grass seeds that do well in sandy soil; seeds that grow in drier and looser dirt. If the soil contains a significant amount of clay, then water will be retained in a higher amount. Ryegrasses can grow in these conditions. Tall fescue is adapted to climates that are drier and regions that do not hold water. If you need a seed that resists diseases such as smut, then buffalograss is a good choice. The proper grass seed will allow your lawn to stand out and thrive. Your area’s typical amount of sunlight and climate conditions weigh heavily on your decision in the type of grass seed to plant. Consider the way in which your lawn is utilized, and deciding which grass seeds to use will be much easier. Continue – Fylde Seeds
